The word random is the more important element of this heading. I’m not a portrait photographer, but was lucky to be in the right place at the right moment a few times.

Kampot, Cambodia. She makes me smile every time I see this photo. I was out for a walk and got mobbed by this girl and her friends looking not for dollars or sweets, but for pencils. Luckily, I always seem to have about 43 pens in my bag, so I was able to trade some of those for a photo.

She was quite shy to be photographed at first, because she thought she wasn't beautiful enough, and then turned on this big, beautiful, glorious smile. She was so happy when I showed her the image from the back of my camera.
